The earliest English equestrian statue. Originally commissioned in 1630 by Charles I's Lord Treasurer , Sir Richard Weston , for his house Mortlake Park in Roehampton . Erected on the site of the Charing Cross in 1674–1675, when the pedestal was carved by Joshua Marshall.[ 24]
