Commas - July 1, 2011, and Paris, Texas, are correct.
Dates & numbers - US$100 format; year ranges 1991–1997 (some exceptions, eg, two consec yrs)
Either US or U.S. may be used in any given article, but use should be consistent with other country abbreviations in the same article (thus the US, UK, and USSR). Wikipedia:Manual of Style#US and U.S.
1000 Māori place names at NZHistory is not a reliable source. Eg, there are two errors with the macrons for Onekaka alone. The NZHistory team should be ashamed.
A reminder of why I've avoided RfA: An admin who passed by a healthy margin in Jan 2021 said "RFA was an unpleasant experience for me, and if I'd known exactly what to expect beforehand, I would not have run." And another.
I graduated with a BA majoring in Māori many years ago. I can contribute with some confidence regarding use of Māori words and phrases in the English Wikipedia.
