Vachsky District (Russian: Ва́чский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion), one of the forty in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia.[1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Vachsky Municipal District.[4] It is located in the southwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 979.5 square kilometers (378.2 sq mi).[1] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Vacha.[1] Population: 19,979 (2010 Census);[2] 23,349 (2002 Census);[6] 29,198 (1989 Soviet census).[7] The population of Vacha accounts for 30.0% of the district's total population.[2]
