Vietnamese Americans (Vietnamese: Người Mỹ gốc Việt) are Americans of Vietnamese ancestry.[6] They comprise a major part of all overseas Vietnamese. There are approximately 2.3 million people of Vietnamese descent residing in the U.S. as of 2023.

The Vietnamese community of the United States was relatively small until a large number of South Vietnamese refugees came to the United States following the end of Vietnam War in 1975. More than half of Vietnamese Americans live in the two most populous states of California and Texas, especially their large urban areas.[7]
