WPS Office (an acronym for Writer, Presentation and Spreadsheets,[3] previously known as Kingsoft Office) is an office suite for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux,[4] iOS,[5] Android,[6] Fire OS and HarmonyOS[2] developed by Chinese software developer company, Kingsoft Office Software. It also comes pre-installed on Amazon Fire tablets. WPS Office is made up of three primary components: WPS Writer, WPS Presentation, and WPS Spreadsheet.[7] By 2022, WPS Office reached a number of more than 494 million monthly active users and over 1.2 billion installations.[8][9]
The personal basic version previously free to use (is still free, but the features and functions are severely limited); it now requires a subscription to use all features. Standard plan and professional plan are available as a subscription. WPS Office 2016 was released in 2016.[10] As of 2019, the Linux version is developed and supported by a volunteer community rather than Kingsoft itself.[11]
The product has had a long history of development in China under the name "WPS" and "WPS Office". For a time, Kingsoft branded the suite as "KSOffice" for the international market, but later returned to "WPS Office". Since the release of WPS Office 2005, the user interface is similar to that of Microsoft Office products, and it supports Microsoft document formats in addition to its own files.
