Historic Towns: Dale -Courtesy of Washington County Nebraska History, 1980 On the Omaha Branch of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway from Arlington to Washington and Omaha there was a railroad "siding" (platted Section 26, Township 17, Range 10) called Dale. In 1921 a siding and a grain elevator were listed. In 1918 Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Madsen Sr. ran a store there and lived in two rooms at the back for the store. Mrs. Madsen (Selma) says that in 1918 there was the siding, a station agent who lived in a converted boxcar, an elevator, cattle holding pens and loading chutes, also coal yards and the store. This was often a busy place, convenient to nearby farms. The Madsen's moved to Washington, running another store for a few years before moving to Blair. The Dale store building was moved onto the Joe Enerson farm and remodelled into their home. The Omaha Branch of the railway was removed to Arlington and the Dale faded to obscurity.
