In the past, images have been (and still are) uploaded with a fair use tag that does not fit the usage of the image in Wikipedia articles. Many images uploaded on the basis of a fair use defense are often disputed, and those that are disputed on proper grounds are often such that the image simply cannot under any circumstances be used according to Wikipedia's fair use guidelines. This is an attempt to set a fixed schedule for the removal of as many improperly tagged fair use images as soon as possible.
- The category Category:Disputed fair use images will act like Category:Proposed deletion, including subcategories for the date an image's fair use was disputed.
- If an image stays on Category:Disputed fair use images for five days, then it may be removed from the articles it is currently included in and deleted by an admin if the admin has looked at the image and also agrees that the usage of the image is in contravention of Wikipedia's fair use guidelines.
- Any editor may endorse an image's deletion on the grounds of improper fair use, or, if the editor believes the use to be fair, remove the fair use disputed tag. Any editor who removes a fair use disputed tag must provide a fair use rationale for the image, if one is not already provided.
