The history of cricket begins in Flanders, or is it Guildford, or perhaps the Weald? What we do know if this intriguing and captivating sport definitely dates from 1598, when a 59-year-old coroner, John Derrick, mentions the game of 'creckett'. Since then the game has developed from its early days being played in South-East England to now having a presence across most of the world, becoming the 2nd most popular sport globally. From international cricket with its Test, ODI and T20I formats, to the domestic game truncated by numerous leagues across the three formats of the modern day game. Knowledge of cricket has prevailed through the ages, spread by a dedicated group of cricket writers and historians, who write about the sport in intricate detail and spend a great deal of time collating its statistics and analysing its quirks. On Wikipedia, it is our aim to foster this knowledge of cricket, taking advantage of the work that has gone before to collate the most comprehensive resource on the internet for cricket, and best of all, make it available to everyone!
