This Copy Editing Backlog Elimination Drive was a one-month-long effort of the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy editing, signified with the {{copyedit}} tag. Please make sure that you know how to copy edit and that you are familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style before you begin copy editing. The drives are under the purview of the Guild's coordinators, Diannaa (talk), Stfg (talk), and Dank (talk). If you have any questions, leave a message on the drive's talk page. This drive began on May 1, 2012, 00:00 UTC, and ended on May 31, 2012, 23:59 UTC.

GOCE Hall of Fame
In recognition of exceptional contributions
Lfstevens – March 2012 Lfstevens led all three leaderboard categories during the March 2012 copy edit drive, editing 202 articles for 132,056 words. Eight of these articles were of 5,000 words or more. Outstanding work.
Dianna – May 2012 Dianna's total word count over all GOCE drives passed 1 million on 5 May 2012.
Baffle gab1978 – December 2012 Baffle gab1978 copy edited 116 requests from the GOCE Requests page in 2012.
Miniapolis – June 2016 For long service to the Guild. Miniapolis has served five terms as a Guild coordinator, including one as lead. She's been a stalwart of the Guild, doing many of the tedious tasks such as updating Blitz and Drive statistics, replying to talk page messages, and copy editing over a million words, mostly on the always-busy Requests page.
Jonesey95 – February 2017 For dedicated service as lead coordinator (2014, 1 July – 31 December 2015 and all of 2016) and coordinator (1 January – 30 June 2015 and 1 January – 30 June 2017); exceptional template-creation work (considerably streamlining project administration), and their emphasis on keeping the GOCE a drama-free zone
Corinne – April 2018 (posthumous) For exceptional work copy editing request articles, working closely and collaboratively with involved editors and fellow copyeditors, and her continued willingness to mentor newer editors
Twofingered Typist – July 2018 For his unfailing, enthusiastic participation in all drives and blitzes for several years, and outstanding assistance on the requests page
Tdslk – January 2021 For long and distinguished service: ten years with the Guild and nine consecutive terms as Coordinator (2016–2020), quality copy-editing, gnomishly updating drive statistics, and guiding new members.

The goal of this backlog elimination drive was to reduce the overall backlog by as many articles as possible, with a focus on those that have been in the queue for the longest (January, February, and March 2011). Articles from the Requests pages count towards your total whether they have a copy edit tag on them or not, so please feel free to select from there when you are in the mood for a better-quality article to edit. Awards will be given out to those individuals who help reduce the size of the backlog.

The backlog elimination drive is open to all, and you do not need to be a member of the Guild of Copy Editors to participate. However, you may want to consider joining, as membership has its benefits. For example, you can place a special "page in use" tag when you are copy editing, and another tag on the talk page when you finish. See the Templates page. NEW! Get your name in the Hall of Fame! Starting retroactively with the March 2012 drive, we will be awarding exceptional editors a place in the new GOCE Hall of Fame. The award will be given on an irregular basis for exceptional efforts in the copy edit drives or for other unusually fabulous contributions. If you have a suggestion for a nomination, please let one of your Guild coordinators know.
