From October to December 2020, we are holding the first of our three-month virtual contests devoted to women from the continents of the world. We have decided to start with Asia as it will coincide with Wikipedia Asian Month in November.

The prizes will be virtual in the form of recognition of the top three contributors for each of the three months with special recognition for the top contributor over the full three-month period.

In line with other Wikipedia contests, articles must have at least 160 words or 1,000 characters of running text (excluding references, lists, boxes and headings) and should have at least two reliable secondary references. Note that for Wikipedia Asian Month, they have to have at leat 3,000 characters or 300 words of running text. While we encourage the creation of women's biographies, articles addressing the works or achievements of Asian women will also qualify. Articles which are not long enough can be listed separately but will not be taken into account for the contest.

In order to participate, contributors must be members of Women in Red. Anyone can register as a member by using the box on the main WiR page.

Please use this article's talk page if you need assistance or wish to comment on the contest.

We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies of the many past and present notable women from Asia, whatever their occupation or role. While our top priority is new biographies, articles about the works, organizations or achievements of Asian women are also welcome.

The main goals of the event are:

    • to extend coverage of Asian women on the English Wikipedia
    • to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of prominent women
    • to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action on this specific area
    • to support Wikipedia in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
    • to promote new articles and images through social media (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter)

    What else?

    • Below, you'll see a section where you can list the articles you create this month, and another section where you can add the images you have uploaded to Commons.
