In the Wikipedia section of this course, students will focus on:
• Writing from a neutral point of view
• Locating content gaps in Wikipedia that align with our course theme
• Locating credible, appropriate sources
• Using sources in responsible ways
• Writing collaboratively with peers and learning Wikipedia community expectations
Students will work in small groups (3 or 4 students) throughout the assignment. As a class, we will identify a set of articles for the groups to choose from. We will work to identify a coherent set of articles that cluster around our course theme of Definitions. We might choose, for example, to focus on a particular group that is underrepresented in Wikipedia (women scientists? First Peoples?). Each group will decide for themselves precisely how work will be distributed among group members with two goals:
• All members contribute in significant ways,
• Groups make good use of member strengths.
