Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration/-Ril-

Some characteristics that support the idea that -Ril- is a Lir sock:

  1. Like Lir, -Ril- has made vague claims of having access to administrator capabilities. Few of our vexatious users do this.
  2. User:Ril is another suspected Lir sockpuppet
  3. Ril is a palindrome of Lir
  4. Lir and all his sockpuppets made serial edits, a pattern that -Ril- carries on
  5. Lir's later sockpuppets would frequently violate the 3RR. -Ril- has been banned four times for 3RR violations.
  6. The writing style is similar.

Some characteristics that don't

  1. The writing style is completely different (e.g. I use British English, the Oxford comma (comma before the "and" or "or" in a list), and have consistently done so for over 8000 edits)
  2. Ril is a palindrome of nothing. A palindrome is a word that is the same spelt in reverse (e.g. Noon, Bob, etc.).
  3. Ril is an anagram of Lir, but also of Rli, Lri, Irl, and Ilr. 3 Letter words are common, especially ones that actually sound like proper words.
  4. UninvitedCompany is an anagram of "You C Men Pant On Vid"
  5. -Ril- has been unbanned for 3RR violations several times with the bans being judged inappropriate - indeed all but El C's were lifted, and El C was self-admittedly "high on codeine" at the time
  6. Everyone makes serial edits. More than 2 edits in a sequence is serial editing.
  7. User:--Ril-- is unlikely to be a Lir sockpuppet
  8. -Ril- has never claimed to have admin powers.

  • I looked through Lir's edits. I believe, given a sufficient number of edits, I would definitely recognize -Ril-. And as much as I think -Ril- is playing a lot of games on Wiki to the harm of everyone, see Wikipedia:Requests for comment/-Ril-, I don't think this is one of those games. -Ril- focuses on articles with a religio-political POV (he used that term). Lir does not. There are other reasons that I will not go into, but I would recognize him over time. --Noitall 03:49, August 14, 2005 (UTC)
  • I agree, despite earlier suspicions I am now quite sure -Ril- is not Lir. If -Ril- is a returned user, they seem far more likely to be User:CheeseDreams. There are some similarities, but most likely -Ril- is a wholly new problem. - SimonP 04:48, August 14, 2005 (UTC)
Looks like you couldn't be bothered waiting, hey? If we're going to have a dispute process, can you not wait for it to work itself out? Are you yourself judge and jury? -- Grace Note
