Xiao Yu (575[1] – 19 July 648[2]), courtesy name Shiwen, posthumously known as Duke Zhenbian of Song, was an imperial prince of the Western Liang dynasty who later became an official under the Sui and Tang dynasties. He served as a chancellor during the reigns of the emperors Gaozu and Taizong in the early Tang dynasty.

  1. ^ According to Xiao Yu's biography in Old Book of Tang, he was 74 (by East Asian reckoning) when he died. (从幸玉华宫,遘疾薨于宫所,年七十四。) Jiu Tang Shu, vol.63. Thus by calculation, his birth year should be 575.
  2. ^ According to Li Shimin's biography in Old Book of Tang, Xiao Yu died on the guiyou day of the 6th month of the 22nd year of the Zhen'guan era. This corresponds to 19 Jul 648 in the Julian calendar. ([贞观二十二年]六月癸酉,特进、宋国公萧瑀薨。) Jiu Tang Shu, vol.03
