Znamensky District (Russian: Зна́менский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[4] district (raion), one of the twenty-four in Oryol Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 817.1 square kilometers (315.5 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Znamenskoye.[1] Population: 5,016 (2010 Census);[3] 6,458 (2002 Census);[6] 6,510 (1989 Soviet census).[7] The population of Znamenskoye accounts for 33.9% of the district's total population.[3]
