Zulfiqar is a 2016 Indian action-crime thriller film written and directed by Srijit Mukherji.[3] The film is produced by Shrikant Mohta and Mahendra Soni under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films. It was based on adaptation of two of William Shakespeare’s tragedies: Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra.[4] The film has an ensemble cast of Prosenjit Chatterjee, Dev(with no dialogues), Parambrata Chatterjee, Ankush Hazra, Jisshu U Sengupta, Kaushik Sen, Rahul Banerjee, Nusrat Jahan, Paoli Dam, June Malia, and Kanchan Mullick with Bharat Kaul, Neel Mukherjee, Srijato, Prasun Gain, Aryann Roy and Aritra Dutt playing supporting roles with Kalyan Roy in a cameo appearance. The film revolves around the Syndicate and underworld of Kolkata where Zulfiqar Ahmed, a rising don loved by the people of the area, gets killed by the other members of his opposition including his dearest friend Basheer Khan, as per the rules of the syndicate.
The soundtrack and background score of the film were composed by Anupam Roy and Indraadip Dasgupta respectively. The cinematography of this film was by Soumik Halder, while the editing was done by Mukherji himself and Anindya Chattopadhyay. The action sequences were choreographed by Javed-Aejaz.
The film released during Durga Puja. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film became blockbuster at the box office and was one of the highest grossing Bengali films of 2016.
